Ewtn2000 My daughter has a 2014 Spark manual tranny, 64 k miles. Just lately in the morning her tranny feels like it stutters when she's driving. After about 10 to 15 minutes, the problem disappears. Any thoughts?

Luxion The only issue I've had was the air conditioner compressor being replaced, but that was a factory defect and not a wear and tear issue.

mkaresh Thanks for the info. None of those seem to meet our criteria for a reportable repair, so the Spark would probably score better in our stats.

Hopefully we can get enough owners signed up, to find out.

On the 2013 I had, the A/C was terrible. It blew warm air when the car was under acceleration. This was a common problem. The MyLink was running old Windows CE and phone compatibility was not good. The Bringo app for MyLink had a list of about 6 phones that were compatible.

mkaresh It appears that the Spark scored very badly in the latest JD Power vehicle durability survey, which covered 2013s during the third year of ownership. This surprised me, and I'm curious about the details.

Anyone here know what might be behind the poor score? Any especially common problems with the Spark, even something like Bluetooth or difficulty using My Link?

We're only about ten cars short with both the 2013 and 2014 of being able to include them in our quarterly reliability survey. I'd really like to be able to provide reliability information on the Spark.

wizard03 oh and the main air bags did NOT deploy during the accident

wizard03 Im a newspaper delivery boy, got a 2015 spark brand new from the lot, and trust me here are the problems:

At 25,000 miles, got into the ditch on the passenger side while making a sweeping left turn. I dropped 6 inches at 40 nph and both side air bags deployed, seat belts locked up super tight {they have controlled explosives, much like an air bag, that jam a locking device into place that tightens the seat belt as it locks itself into place.) THERE WAS NO DAMAGE MECHANICALLY, OR COSMETICALLY!!! The air bags deployed without an actual accident---cost $ was not completed due to costs

At 50,000 miles, the automatic CVT transmission crapped out. Hard. First it felt like when it was supposed to shift into gear, it would slip. Constantly. When it finally went, it went into the highest gear, then locked itself there when the computer finally realized there was a problem and went into limp in mode.
Repair cost is unknown as after 4 weeks the dealership concluded it was indeed a bad transmission after failing to reprogram the computer correctly 6 times. Another week later, a GM engineer also said it was a bad transmission, and THEN it was replaced under warrenty.

75,000 miles Transmission is again dying, GM blames my driving. Im at ends, my brand new car, less than a year old, is a hunk of junk. Bad transmissions are the root of all my evil and they are trying to pawn this one off on me. Also, left front ball joint is worn out. However it is surprising easy to replace. I did it in 1 hour. Cost on ball joint is $70.

80,000 miles. I fall asleep behind the wheel one night and incur some hardcore off road driving. After being air born, hitting a 60 degree slope, being air born again, and finally sliding 40 feet to a stop, the car was pretty banged up, but amazingly still drivable. After a huge fiasco with progressive insurance {that ism't even done yet} the car has had the cosmetics fixed, and the tranny as well.....cost=?

95,000 the used transmission that progressive paid to replace the second transmission is dying.....In the end, car and engine are the best parts of the car, nothing to complain about. The transmission however is very useful as far as boat anchors and target practice is concerned.

mkaresh Now 17 2013s and 12 2014s. Minimum of 25 to include a year in the survey.

mkaresh Good to hear they're not having any problems when new. I'd expect this, but you never know

On mpg, it's going to matter a lot how the car is driven. Go easy on the pedals and drive where stops aren't too frequent, and over 40 should be doable.
