The 2014 Chevy Spark EV has been included in the 2014 North American Car of the Year long list. Cadillac won last year with the ATS, and this year Cadillac is pinning its hopes on the CTS and the ELR. The automakers with the most entries on the list are Chevrolet and Kia with 5 entries each.

The long list will be trimmed down to about 12 vehicles in the Fall, once all 50 jurors have had a chance to drive everything. This list will be narrowed down again to the top 3 before the winner is announced at the 2014 Detroit Auto Show.

What do you think of the list? Could the Chevy Spark EV win the whole thing? I think I could see an amazing EV taking a good crack at it.

I think that the Spark EV has a bit of an advantage because it is electric. This makes it a great example of innovation and forward thinking. Beyond that, it is pretty affordable too. It would be easier to say which cars are front-runners if we knew more about the criteria that the judges use.

I don't think that the world is ready for an EV to win car of the year yet. Maybe in 2-4 years they would have a better chance. I think that the Cadillac CTS and the Jaguar F-Type are great cars, and I could also see a Porsche take the prize. It will be interesting to see the short list. It will also be easier to make predictions then.
