The 2014
Chevrolet Spark EV in production form will make its official debut at the
2012 Los Angeles Auto Show, the American automaker has confirmed.
The plug-in electric variant of Chevy’s new Spark minicar will be one of 13 new or significantly redesigned products the automaker is launching next year.
Chevy didn’t release many details on the Spark EV, but it will be powered by a permanent-magnet electric motor with 114 hp, which is 31 hp more than the gasoline-powered Spark. But let’s keep in mind that the Spark EV will be significantly heavier due to its batteries compared to the standard, gasoline model.
Chevy will have to impress at the LA Auto Show though, hopefully announcing that the Spark gets more than the 62-mile range that it was achieving earlier this year in initial tests by the automaker.
