Another option would be to go with a ReQ which is a speaker level to line level converter but also accounts for the equalization curve of the factory HU. That way you can keep the OnStar, steering wheel controls, hands free calling, and still have an external amp and speakers. It also allows you to connect a powered sub if necessary.

I put Focal 100 CA1's in the front speaker areas and I put a 10" Rockford Fosgate pre-amped sub in the back. I dont even worry about the back speakers because honestly you only need 2 really good quality speakers in the front and a sub system in the back. Back speakers get drowned out by the sub anyways so it's a waste to put anything besides subs/amps back there.
