Not to be left out of the custom car fun in Las Vegas, Chevrolet announced seven concepts headed for the 2012 SEMA show in a little more than a week.
Those concepts will include the Cruze Upscale concept , two customized Sonics and four tricked out Spark micro cars. Ranging from reasonable to ridiculous, Chevrolet’s Cruze Upscale concept is probably the closest concept to something you would see on the street albeit with all the unnecessary parts you would expect from a car at the SEMA Show.
It starts with 19-inch wheels with a “black ice” finish and takes the Cruze to a more luxurious level. The exterior trim is finished in the same color as the wheels while the car itself is painted in a “burnished brandy” color.
A brown leather-trimmed interior and leather accent pieces throughout the cabin continue to try and fashion the economy-minded Cruze into a more premium vehicle.
Unlike the Cruze Upscale, the Sonics both get performance modifications and a Z-Spec name. The Z-Spec 1 is the less aggressive looking of the two. Finished in “synergy green,” it also gets 18-inch alloy wheels and a host of performance upgrades. Those include a new exhaust, lowered suspension and upgraded brakes with four-piston calipers for the front wheels.
It’s more aggressive looking than the Z-Spec 1, but the Z-Spec 2.5 doesn’t seem to get any extra performance modifications over the green car. What it does get is a white, orange and black exterior color scheme, different 18-inch wheels, and a more heavily modified interior including black leather with orange accents to match the outside.
Following the Z-Spec theme, Chevrolet also decked a Spark out with an aggressive body kit, although the car itself doesn’t even try to take on any mechanical upgrades apart from a lowered suspension. The same goes for the Spark “Sinister” concept which features a dramatic body kit and 18-inch wheels somehow fitted to the tiny car.
Finally, two more Sparks aimed at charity will make it to the floor. One is the “Color Run” Spark which is the official pace car for the Color Run, a five-kilometer race. Then there’s the “Pink Out” Spark aimed at raising cancer awareness which is painted pink and features the pink ribbon logo.
