Domino’s Future Fleet of 5,000 Chevy Spark Pizza Delivery Vehicles

Domino’s Pizza and the Local Motors community of car designers and fabricators have elected the winning projects of their 5-stage Domino’s Ultimate Delivery Vehicle Challenge.
The contest started in August 2012, with the final goal being to find the best design for a future delivery vehicle that would cost Domino’s franchisers around $20,000 to buy.

In phase 5, the final one, organizers wanted to obtain photo realistic renderings of Domino’s Ultimate Delivery Vehicle design in various specific environments, including a night scene in New York or a dusk scene in a suburban neighborhood.

Phase 5 was broken down into four categories: exterior rendering, interior rendering, best night scene and best branding. The winner of three of the four categories was Romanian designer Marian Cilibeanu, also known for his work on the SCI hyMod concept.

Cilibeanu’s D-Box2 presentation won first place for exterior rendering, with the jury appreciating the iconic design, great use of the Domino’s Logo and Out for Delivery sign and the improved functionality of the UDV, among others. The project also won first place for best night scene and best branding, while also ranking third for the interior rendering category, which was won by another Romanian designer, Ianis Vasilatos and his SparkUS project.

The D-Box2 project was appreciated especially for the bulls-eye window on the delivery door located behind the driver’s door, which was seen as the most original interpretation of the contest’s briefing.

Prize money aside, the winning designers and the Local Motors community will get to see their ideas turned into reality, as Domino’s Pizza intends to add around 5,000 Chevy Sparks for its U.S. fleet, one for each franchised location. Check out both winning projects in the gallery below.

So if you live in Canada, the only way to drive a Spark is if you work for Dominos :p
Now thats pretty cool, this will actually help us out in the long run with parts being cheaper, more used chevy sparks, etc.

Since Dominoes is using the Spark as their "fleet" vehicle, i wonder if any other companies will jump on the bandwagon and do the same?

I can see cities buying these for their city workers, e.x. parking enforcement.

I can really only see the Spark used as a transport vehicle for small packages. I couldn't imagine it being used for anything else like a taxi for example. It is far too small for that.
This was a perfectly executed idea for a vehicle this small, the spark is perfect for food deliveries. Easy to get around with in the city and small enough to park anywhere temporary to not cause trouble. But the design of this pizza delivery spark is some what "CHeesy" :)
