A future filled with robotic chauffeurs took one step closer to reality yesterday as California signed a new bill into law that paves the way for driverless cars to legally operate within the state. Nevada and Florida already have such laws on the books.
Google co-founder Sergey Brin, who heads up the company's cutting edge R&D arm called X Labs, attended a signing ceremony with California Governor Jerry Brown yesterday.
"You can count on one hand the number of years it will take before ordinary people can experience this," he said, touting the company's driverless car initiative.
A handful of test vehicles, including this one seen driving a blind man, have already notched over 300,000 driverless miles.
